Certain individuals with disabilities residing in Michigan are receiving information concerning TICKET TO WORK from the Social Security Administration. Congress created the TICKET TO WORK AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM in 1999. Qualified Michigan residents began receiving their tickets in November 2002.
Under the Program, SSA will provide disability beneficiaries with a Ticket they may use to obtain the services they need from an Employment Network (EN) of their choice.
The Ticket Program is voluntary. Participants should have both the desire and the ability to work competitively, with the potential of earning a minimum of $860 per month. (This amount increases every January.) Beneficiaries receiving Tickets will have the option of contacting EN, such as New Horizons, to discuss questions, eligibility and services. The EN and the beneficiary will work together to design an Individual Work Plan (IWP) that will outline the services to be provided to enable the beneficiary to reach his/her employment goal.
The advantages of using the Ticket include:
- Being protected from Social Security medical reviews.
- Recipients can continue their Medicare or Medicaid while working.
- It is easy to get Social Security benefits back if recipients try to work but can't.
If you have any questions about your Ticket, employment services, or the program, you may call New Horizons at (248) 340-0549, extension 260 to speak with a staff consultant. You may also visit www.yourtickettowork.com.
