New Horizons has adapted all of its vocational programming to accommodate persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. New Horizons staff focus on positive attributes enhancing the skills necessary to seek and retain employment. Specialized programs and services include evaluation, training, job coaching and placement as well as follow-up services.
Emphasis is placed on providing specialized programs for persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing for the following reasons:
- Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals have unique vocational issues.
- The general public often does not recognize the full potential of people with
hearing impairments.
- Communication issues often exist between the deaf and hard-of-hearing
population and the business community.
- The skills and abilities of those with hearing impairments are often overlooked.
