New Horizons Awards & Accomplishments
2008 – MICHIGAN COMMISSION FOR THE BLIND COMMUNITY PARTNER ACHIEVEMENT HONOR ROLL AWARD The honor roll awards are presented to persons served by the MCB who are exemplary in achieving their goals for employment, employers who have excelled in providing employment opportunities for qualified MCB customers, and community partners recognized for their collaboration with MCB in increasing opportunities for MCB customers to achieve independence and/or employment. 2007 – MUTUAL OF AMERICA COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD The New Horizons Soft Skills Training Curriculum Program has been selected as a national merit finalist for the 2007 Mutual of America Community Partnership Award. The Selection Committee was impressed by the program’s impact on the lives of the targeted population and the impressive results of this dynamic collaboration since its inception in 2005. The award included a presentation luncheon and $15,000 monetary amount. 2007 – MICHIGAN’S SALUTE TO DIVERSITY AWARD BY CORP! MAGAZINE New Horizons was chosen as a “Diversity Champion” for being a nonprofit organization that creates or promotes special programming, education or other initiatives that focus on diversity. Corp! Magazine is one of Michigan’s largest business magazines and a long-time supporter of diversity and multiculturalism in business. 2007 - METROPOLITAN DETROIT’S 101 BEST & BRIGHTEST COMPANIES TO WORK FOR. For four years, 2000, 2002, 2003, and now in 2007, New Horizons was chosen to be part of the impressive “Metropolitan Detroit’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies to Work For”. New Horizons was honored along with 100 other worthy organizations in metropolitan Detroit receiving recognition for outstanding human resource practices. 2007 - INDIVIDUAL AWARDS Ron Storing, Vice-President of New Horizons, was the recipient of the 2007 MRC Excellence Award and given to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in leadership, effectiveness, creativity, advocacy, and commitment on behalf of persons with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
2006 - NISH PERFORMANCE EXCELLENCE AWARD USING THE ABILITY ONE PROGRAM TO FURTHER ITS MISSION In May 2007, NISH presented this national award to New Horizons. The award is annually presented to one community rehabilitation agency that uses the Ability One Program contracts to fulfill and advance its mission in support of people with severe disabilities. The Ability One Program creates jobs and training opportunities for people who are blind or have other severe disabilities, empowering them to achieve greater independence and lead more productive lives. The award included an organizational video and $5,000 monetary amount. NATIONAL ACCREDITATION - CARF New Horizons has received the highest level of accreditation possible with a 3 year CARF accreditation. CARF is the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities establishing national standards of quality care for rehabilitation organizations serving people with disabilities. 2006 – AUTOMATION ALLEY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD New Horizons was recognized by Automation Alley as an organization that has shown unsurpassed dedication to the growth of Southeast Michigan with proven programs directly benefiting Southeast Michigan businesses and/or future employees. Automation Alley encompasses more than 650 businesses, educational institutions and government entities driving the growth and image of Southeast Michigan's technology economy. 2006 – NISH MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE AWARD NISH (National Industries for the Severely Handicapped) presented New Horizon's CEO/President, Stan A. Gramke, with the Management Excellence Award from the National Council of Work Centers. This prestigious award is a reflection of his many years of successful management and dedicated service in the field of human services. 2005 – ARC PROVIDER OF THE YEAR AWARD New Horizons received the distinguished ARC of Oakland County award, presented to an Oakland County based provider, residential or vocational, that maintains a consistent, positive, and nourishing community-based setting for persons with developmental disabilities. 2005 - COOL PLACES TO WORK COMPETITION New Horizons was named one of Michigan's "Cool Places to Work" in a first-of-its-kind competition jointly held by Crain's Detroit Business, the Grand Rapids Business Journal, and the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth. New Horizons takes pride in being a company that promotes a healthy balance for its employees both within their work environment as well as outside of work. |
